Whew! That took a while!

08:05:02 PM
I just stopped with working on this project because I'm now thoroughly bored with it. Maybe I'll pick it up later. It's just that there's only so much 80's music you can take in one day without getting bored. Especially when you are spending quite a bit of time with setting up the equipment so that you can record the music from your old tapes/records collection. You know that collection I'm talking about... the one that's sitting in the closet collecting dust! Well I drug mine out today and decided I'd start recording the tracks that were the reasons I bought those albums in the first place so that I'd have them easily at my fingertips while working at the computer. So there ya go... ten hours later I'm exhausted, but I've got 49 shiney new 80's files on my computer. =)

Ah, the joys of remembering and playing together!

05:55:54 PM
I've been feeling pretty ill lately, I still do actually, but today I finally felt good enough for a few hours to take the time to install the C1toDS add on to Docking Station. I had the kids and my husband home for the fourth day in a row, and the boredom that comes with being stuck inside due to disgustingly cold, icy weather was broken entirely by this add on.

I had quite a few moments of tension and concern at first as, like a typical impatient idiot, I didn't read the instructions before I tried to play with my new toy. ;) I, of course, tried to inject the place holder rather than inject in the proper order, and so was quite frustrated in the beginning of my adventure. After speaking with Lacota, head of the C1toDS project team - who kindly gave me the virtual finger by clicking offline when I mentioned that I was having problems installing the add on, I decided that it might be good to take out those instructions and read them. Hehehe.

After doing so I waited side by side with my husband and children, with baited breath for the three and a half long minutes that it took to install the add on. Things were quite tense there for a few minutes while I waited, wondering if and when my poor computer was going to hang or crash. I was nearly about to give up and abort the game when suddenly that familiar pastel world of old arrived on screen to give me the biggest thrill I've had in a long time while playing Docking Station. :)

Talk about cheering someone up. I was sooo excited! I quickly scrambled back to the comms room to finish injecting the rest of the agents required for the world to operate. I sat squealing with glee at every familiar site! I reveled in the fact that all the old sites and sounds were there, some with new little tricks that I always wanted them to have in the days of old. I talked and reminisced with my kids about our first norns as we joyfully played with the agents and learned what was new and different together.

Then our first grendel hatched, and we rushed quickly to put a pair of norns in the world as well. I sat on the edge of my seat with my kids as our norns wandered the Albia of old. We talked of converting agents long forgotten on hard drives of old. We remembered the nornish food stuffs of Freya's oven, the fun of the Christmas agents with the reindeer and the Christmas crackers, the joys of watching norns kick the Albian Carrot Beetles, the beauty of the world as the norns took a ride courtesy of Slink's Balloon agent, and the giggles we all got watching the norns blow those adorable little bubbles out of Mark Boehler's Bubble Wand agent. Then we got to the music room, and we all cried together at remembering SteerPike's passing, and discussed how we enjoyed the agents he created for C1, and how we would miss having them now.

Altogether we had a wonderful time, and I wish to offer my heartfelt thanks to the C1toDS team for making my day... my week... heck I don't think I'm going to be bored with DS again for a while yet! :D This was such fun on a snow day, and I think that on such an occasion everyone on the team deserves more than just our heartfelt thanks. Therefore in your honor I offer the best tribute of which I know....

THANK YOU!

Kids have the day off.

I'm not sure I'm thrilled about this idea. :S Oh well, we'll make the best of it, and snuggle up together again, and watch tv, play games, and read like we did all weekend already.

Surprise!

I've fixed my journal! =) I was still making some entries when I remembered to do so, and if you want to catch up on all I've done since the beginning of October 2003, then you'll need to read the archives. Of course I've added some new functionality to this thing as well, and now you can check out just the entries you're interested in by having a look through the journal topic by topic! Have fun! =)
