Spring Break, AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

07:20:03 AM
Well, I just get things fixed up on the computer, and it happens to be Spring Break. I'll have the kids home from today when they get off the bus at 1:30 pm. until Monday the 24th. I will probably not get any posting done because I'll be busy with them, so I guess you will all just have to watch and see when I come back. If you are on Spring Break yourselves, I hope you have a good time! :)

Floral wins a first place...

07:41:39 PM
Hi all!

Floral went to Band regional's today. She was rather upset with me when she left this morning. Floral is one of only two fifth graders who were allowed by the band teacher to participate in Chorus this year.

Normally only the sixth grade and up are allowed to participate, and go to regional competition. My baby has talent! Not that we didn't know that, but the teacher discovered that she does indeed have talent, and was persuaded no doubt by several of the teachers, who knew that Floral has an amazing voice for a girl her age, to allow her to participate.

Unfortunately she woke up this morning with a sore throat and a bit of a cough, and I informed her that she couldn't participate in Chorus that way. I let her go, despite my misgivings, to allow her to compete with her trumpet. However, she seemed determined to defy me and try to sing anyway. Floral got really angry when I called Mrs. S., the band teacher, and informed her of Floral's condition. I told her that I really didn't want Floral to compete with a sore throat. Mr. S. heard Floral talk when she got to the school to get ready to leave, and she told her that she wasn't going to be singing her solo.

Well, despite being peeved that she couldn't compete and sing her solo Floral apparently had a good time. She met several new students from some other schools, and made friends with them. In fact, she had such a good time meeting other kids that she just talked herself right out of her voice anyway! Voice or not though, she competed in the trumpet solo, and she won a first! She's rather proud of herself, and so are her family members! She says next time she's going to try for a first superior. =)
